Joya Home for Mac

Their Mac follows the same rules
as their phone.

Install Joya Home on your child's computer. You keep managing everything from Joya Home, on your phone. The words in yellow are the buttons in the app.

💻 What it does

One more device. The same rules.

Their Mac becomes one more of your child's devices. Nothing new to learn.

Breaks reach the Mac too

Dinner, Bedtime, Family break, your scheduled moments: the Joya screen covers the whole Mac until the break is over.

One daily limit

Time on the Mac adds up with time on the phone. 2 hours a day means 2 hours in total, not 2 hours per device.

You set it as usual: their profile › Daily time limit.

Their apps too

An app limit (“Roblox 1 hour a day”) counts their Android phone and their Mac together. You can also turn off one specific Mac app: their profile › Limit per app › By app › Their computer's apps › Turn off.

On iPhone, Apple doesn't share that time: the limit is still counted on the iPhone alone.

Websites too

Adult websites (Block adult websites) and the sites or categories you block are filtered in Safari, Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and Vivaldi. Other browsers (Firefox, Opera…) are paused while the filter is on: “use Safari or Chrome”.

You only see website history (the site name only, never the page) if you've turned it on: See website history.

They can ask you for time

On their Mac, they click Ask for time (at the top of the screen, or on the Joya screen during a break). You get the request on your phone and answer Yes or No.

You manage it all from your phone

Their profile › Their computers: you see whether their Mac is Protected. If someone turns Joya Home off, or their Mac stays silent while it's on, you're told. A Mac that's asleep or shut down normally doesn't trigger anything.

🛠️ Setting it up

4 steps, with your child.

Keep your phone next to the Mac.

Ready?

  1. On your phone, in Joya Home: tap your child's name to open their profile, then Add a computer. A code appears (it works once, for 7 days).
  2. On their Mac: download Joya Home, double-click the downloaded file, then drag Joya Home into the Applications folder. Download for Mac
  3. Open Joya Home and type the code. Then follow what the Mac shows: it asks you to let Joya Home open with it. The first time each browser opens, the Mac asks whether Joya Home may control Safari (or Chrome…): click Allow, that's what makes website filtering work.
  4. Important: on the Mac, your child must have a standard account, not an administrator one. Otherwise, they can delete the app.

To check: Apple menu › System Settings › Users & Groups. Under their name, it should say “Standard”. If it says “Admin”, click ⓘ next to their name and turn off the option that lets them administer the computer. You need your own administrator account on this Mac.

🚧 Not yet

What it doesn't do yet.

We'd rather tell you.

Windows

For now, Joya Home works on Mac only. Windows is coming soon.
